Yuko Matsuoka

Yuko Matsuoka was born on November 28,1938 in Otaru, Japan. She attended the College of Wooster in Ohio from 1958-60, where she won the Netta Strain Scott Prize in art; then the Michigan State University, where she finished a B.F.A. degree with honors. After college, she got employed by interior design offices in the US and in Japan.

The heavens and landscapes take up a great portion of her works. This emphasis gives her works that atmospheric effect that transports the viewer to a different place. Yuko started oil painting early in 1954 with famous artist Shigehiko Ishikawa, she also received guidance from the late Christian Art Association in Japan or the Japan Christian Arts Association (JCAA) president, Tadao Tanaka. Her works have been featured in numerous publications and in has been exhibited within Asia and the US.

Aside from painting she is also active in organizing Christian art events not only with churches but also with schools and artists from all over Asia. She is a former president of the Asian Christian Arts Association,  member of the JCAA and was the executive director of the International Culture Appreciation and Interchange Society, Inc.
