Yasuo Ueno was born in Japan in 1926 and is a graduate of the Tokyo Art Academy. He was a professor at the Tamma Art College in Tokyo, Japan. He has travelled widely in Europe and Asia and much of his art reflects the influences of this visits. The gilding of orthodox icons is reflected in some of his works. He gives great attention to the framing of his painting.

He has received many awards in Japan and exhibited by invitation at the Japanese International Art Exhibition and the Japanese MObile Art Exhibition.

The paintings shown here are from his book "Saisho no Kurismasu" ( The First Christmas). The works are painted in natural pigments on silk. (Publishers: Shiko-Sha Co, Tokyo)
