Masaru Horie Was born in Kobe, Japan in 1913. He graduated from the Education Department of Kobe University, he subsequently taught at a primary school in Kobe. His strong art soon attracted national attention. In 1979 he won the prose of the Ministry of Education and the Yasui Prize in 1980.

He has retained a strong commitment to the church, teaches in Sunday School and week and is a regular contributor to the Japan Christian Art Association annual exhibitions. A member of the Japan Watercolor Artist's Association. His watercolor painting of "Isaac and Jacob" is the collection of the Awaij Island Museum
